In the Workman MS (anno 1565) in the library of the Lyon Office,
there is a shield embrazoned for the name MaKcalla, upon which the earliest known arms of the McCalls have apparently been
founded. (From H.B. McCall's "Some Old Familes", Page 140

Prior to 1135,it is difficult to identify individual McCalls,
but family traditions give us a guide. King MacCuill and Queen Erin of the Isles at the time of the arrival of the Milesians,
were Femorians and perhaps McCalls. Later Saint Patrick captures a Prince MacCahuil, who is described as a prince,a druid
and a thief(pirate?) in 400's. He is converted and takes the latin name Maughold, later Saint Maughold of Isle of Mann. In
Celtic Saints, he calls himself Cyclops or a Femorian. In Druids,by Ellis this name is anglicized to Ronald McCall. A Golden
Lunala dated back to 2500 BC has been found at Auchentaggart, a McCall farm of many years? McCalls as MacCathals continued
to be Kings in Connaught until about 1000 AD and it is possible that King David I gave Edgar MacCathal a charter to lands
of Richeldun in 1124. Later King Robert the Bruce would give McCalls the Lands Of Caulieston around Dunscore in 1320's. This
is likely because of our chieftain Malcolm McCall(M'Kail or M'Kawele) leading his men to battle the MacDougalls at Loch Ryan
and Clan McCalls help in winning the Battle of Bannockburn
